As a tropical island, the beaches of Mauritius are one of the major draws for visitors. This means picking the right time to visit is important. With the wet season between December and April, these months also see the hottest temperatures. Try planning to visit on the cusp of the dry season in May and November for sunnier days with warm temperatures.

Although tipping is not considered mandatory in Mauritius, small gratuities will definitely be appreciated. When dining out a service charge is sometimes included, however you are free to tip the waiter according to how you feel the service was.

In Mauritius the power plugs and sockets are either the same as a standard UK three pin plug (type G) or a two round pin plug (type C). 230V / 50Hz.

The official language of Mauritius is considered to be Mauritian Creole. English is widely spoken too, so getting by is easy.

Mauritius enjoys a largely tropical climate, though the humid hot conditions are moderated by the southeast trade winds that blow across the region. The island lies within the south tropical belt and due to it being an island the tropical climate verges on maritime with temperatures seeing relatively small seasonal and diurnal variations.

The hottest months of December through April are also the wettest with the monsoon season peaking in January and February. Although largely wet, this offseason still enjoys almost the same amount of sunshine per day on average as the rest of the year.
