With almost no annual rainfall, holidays to Abu Dhabi are a warm respite from the UK weather. Peak season for tourism is in the cooler months from October to March making it the perfect destination for a winter escape. With so much to see and so many things to do in Abu Dhabi already, it is also interesting to note some of the major events and celebrations throughout the year:

Jan: Abu Dhabi Golf Championship

Feb/Mar: Red Bull Air Race

Mar / Apr: Abu Dhabi International Motorshow

Nov: Abu Dhabi F1 Grand Prix

*Please note the period of Ramadan last for approximately one month and dates vary each year.

Although tipping is not uncommon in Abu Dhabi and the option to reward exceptional service is always appreciated, it is not compulsory and is at your discretion. Many fine dining and high-end restaurants may add a service charge of around 10% to the bill as well as a tourism levy of 6%. All purchases are made using the national currency in Abu Dhabi, the Arab Emirate Dirham (AED).

In the UAE the power plugs and sockets are the same as standard UK three pin plugs (type G). 220V / 50Hz

The official language of the UAE is Arabic. Within all major Abu Dhabi hotels & resorts, as well as major restaurants in Abu Dhabi, English is also widely spoken, so getting by is easy.

Please contact your GP.

Although not as flashy as its neighbour Dubai, Abu Dhabi still plays host to many fine dining and internationally acclaimed restaurants. Hotels in Abu Dhabi offer a range of international fare both in their restaurants and for in-room dining. For an authentic experience, visit a local market and peruse the wide variety of snacks on offer. My tip… see the range of dates at the Mina Dates Market!

The weather in Abu Dhabi between October and March is the envy of most UK holiday makers with average maximum temperatures between 25°C and 35°C. During the summer months of June to September the mercury soars to above 40°C. During this time fantastic specials can be found at luxury hotels trying to entice guests and increase room occupancy.
